Bug? or Operator Error? Temporary Reservations

Post by gonesouth »

Marco, I have the system running on my page www.balmoralmotel.ca.

1. Under Configure and Customize,

Minutes during which mantain occupied the apartments meanwhile a
reservation is being inserted:

is set to 20 (was 120 but that didn't work either)

When someone tries to make a reservation I thought it would show as unavailable if someone booked a room - in fact earlier in the set up process it did, but it doesn't now........

You can test it by putting in a reservation for a non-Smoking Queen for some date between the 1st and 21st of May - it should show as unoccupied on the availability calendar, shouldn't it? (All but one of my Queens are booked then.)

Any ideas? Is there another box somewhere I need to click?

Thanks

Jim

Hello Jim,
those minutes are only for reservations being inserted in the backoffice. It would not be a good idea letting people making reservations without any deposit or identity check (they may use the form just to try it), noramlly when an enquiry comes you insert the reservation only after you respond and get a confirmation email. If you want instant bookings they are possible with the paypal add-on module, available also to digitaldruid.net hosting subscribers.

I hear what you are saying about online reservations with no contact or money, but I continue to have faith in the innate goodness of people (in spite of all evidence to the contrary). So, I will be trying to figure out how to insert reservations without my intervention unless I decide to do a "Manager's Cancel" Paypal doesn't work for me because of their record of taking back payments without cause. Edit: If the deposit is set to zero with the paypal module what happens then - can somebody test this for me?

However, back to the original topic - are you saying that the temporary reservations are only put in from the "insert a reservation' dialog? How does that make sense? Aren't they then a 'real' reservation or do I have to check the confirm box to make them real? If I am reading you right does that mean that inserted unconfirmed (via check box)reservations 'expire' as far as the availability check goes?
