Code contribution
Hi Marc
Php-Residence is a nice project - congratulations!!!
I think, it may be a good idea to allow people to contribute code to this project. The fact, that this is actually not possible is a limitation to this project. Do you have plans to allow this in the future?
Kind regards,
Roman

Hello Roman,
Currently I can accept code contributions as long as I judge them generally useful and the code is released under the GPL but I keep the right to release it under other licences (pass to me the copyright or dual license it with a mozilla like license). But until now I have received mostly promises, so I'm not going to loose time on coordination efforts etc. I think that this absence of contributions is caused by the code being in Italian and by the nature of management software (highly customization, so you add features that work for you but are unusable or harming for most others).

Hi Marco
Thanks for your reply!
Php-Residence is cool and your decision to make it open source is also a fine one. However, because of the language issue the code is still not "open". For me and probably for many programers it's important to translate the code from Italian to English.
I have already started with the translation. I have exchanged all messages, translated the filenames, database and variablenames, but there is much more work to do, as you know. You can imagine, that it will take quite a while to get a stable version in English. The translation is based on v1.1.0.
The translation task is a big one. I can't really tell how much more work needs to be done, but it's definitely heavy. It would be very helpfull, if the task had your full support.
Are you interested?

I agree
I can only agree to such a contribution, I too would like to improve and contribute to this wonderfull software unfortunately, italian not beeing a language I know it has been very difficult to understand your code.
I can only hope that this project will be more known, because after trying softwar much more expensive (and badly written) I can tell you that such a software has a wonderfull future

code translation
I can only agree and forking this project is not a good idea.
anyway I can only propose some times should you need to translate and comment some file (cannot spend the time to do it for all of them, sorry)

Hello Roman and Vincent,
right now I don't have time to stop the development for translation, I want to finish 1.2 as soon as possible. Anyway before translating I would make a script to make it easier. The script should take all words from the files that are not comments, phrases in mex function or php functions or keywords, and put them in a form with 2 columns (1 with the words in alfabetical order and the other with empty boxes for translation). Then when you submit the form it should replace the words in all files. So if you want to help I think it would be better working on this script (I would do it in php) so that the translation can be done faster.

not quite what roman says
In fact when roman spoke about translation he spokes about translating the code in order to make it readeable by any english speaking programmers.
Of course we will also be quite happy to help you translating the GUI.
Concerning the php script in order to ease translation of the GUI I agree with you because translating it is a mess now (some sentence appear many times)
I also think we may simplify some GUI and reduce the number of sentence in order to ease the translation.
Also setting up a CVS (sourceforge) would ease the submittion of bug correction and translation, because right now you are the only one doing this task and this is probably one huge task for you
Best regards from france

Hi folks
We should find an agreement on where to go!
Is our goal to fully translate php-residence into english? Fact is, that a full translation is a hell of a job, because it includes also the name of functions, comments, variables, default-mex, etc. A php-script may help but can't do all the work.
My 2cents concerning gui-translations into other languages. Let's not invent the wheel again. Can't we go for a well established solution like gettext?
To move php-residence on CVS would be perfect! This would really move forward this great project.
Best regards from Switzerland.

I was talking about a script to translate the code, no plans to change the gui translation.. As you say it's a huge work, so having such a script would help. Also when the time comes I would prefer doing the actual translation work by myself to keep track of the new names.
