I'm a bit confused - it seems one can populate another separate system according to what I have read, but for instance could 1 take reservations at the hotel desk and have the reservations automatically update the online system and the reverse as well, the concern would be overlapping reservations.

I ask as our location has no telephone lines, we either need to use Satellite, or I think 3G cellular access so I'm not sure we can afford or maintain 24 hour 7 day a week access. Even if we did have full time access internet connections do go down so I would want to continue booking guests in at the hotel till the system came up again and matched.

You can have a copy on your local computer as explained here:

But still any changes (like inserting/modifying a reservation, etc.) should be done on the on-line version if you want to have reservations from your website.
